Hot, or should I say too hot, was the word for last week’s weather. The air conditioners where running full speed and we had fans going wherever we could. For me that week was enough of that. Now, on to the cool weather.

Happy Birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Holden Graczykowski, who celebrated on August 14; Renato Araujo and Aydan Roginski on August 15; Allicia Guimaraes on August 16; Gabriel De Souza and Maria Pizzico on August 18; Henry Banks and Victor Valentim on August 19; and to Gusttavo Dias, who celebrates his day today, August 20.

I am sending our sympathies to the Black family on the loss of their mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Everel Black. Everel passed away at the age of 101 on Wednesday, August 11 at her home. Everel taught 4-H for many years and she was an accomplished porcelain painter. Most would remember her recently walking from her home up the Edgartown-West Tisbury Road. She was a very kind lady and was proud of her family. She is now back with her husband John, but she will be missed.

The week of the Fair is here. The big question was if the carnival side of the Fair was going to be here. Well, the rides have arrived. People of all ages are getting excited, as they always are when the Fair arrives. People have their projects all prepared for the exhibitions in the hall and some are getting the animals ready for their part of the show. It is always so exciting for everyone involved. I only hope this year, everyone is safe and does their best to be healthy.

Save The Date! On September 18 at 10 a.m., the public is cordially invited to attend a dedication ceremony in memory of the late Ed Jerome, who served as principal of the Edgartown School for 26 years (1979-2005). The ceremony will take place outside, in front of the Edgartown School. An engraved bench as well as a plaque in the main entrance will be installed to honor Ed and his many accomplishments as principal. Please plan to join us!

I enjoyed listening to Carol Goldberg, who was telling me about her house full of 17-year olds and surviving the visit. And Joanne Connolly and her husband Bill have had a houseful of family visiting. Even though it is very hectic, it is always fun to have a house full of young people, only to remind you that you enjoy the quiet after they leave. But the memories keep you going, as they are not there for a long while.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
