Thankfully for us, Henri was a bust. We all prepared for the worst as it did look like it was headed for us. I think most people were anxious about Henri and we were prepared for the worst, which is not a bad thing. Sure enough, it headed west.

Happy Birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Andre Mejia-Castro, who celebrated August 21, Anna Rodrigues on August 24, Cali Grow and Dani Grow, and Joao Oliveira, who all celebrated on August 26.

This is the week that we feel is the beginning of the end of summer. Illumination happened and the Fair. Now you can see a little change in the traffic and people as school is starting and kids are off to college. It has been a very different summer with lots of people and very warm and humid weather but a good one all in all.

Elizabeth Paulson and Kevin Ward dropped of their son Zach Ward at the University of Miami. It is Zach’s freshman year and the Ward’s first child to leave the nest. It was a tough one for the parents, but I am sure he will do fine. Zach is also one of the beach gang babies and we are all proud of him.

I did not go to Illumination but heard it was pretty. As usual, the cottages looked nice with all the lanterns. People were good about social distancing and wearing masks.

My friend Grace Conklin and I did go to the Fair after some discussion if we should or not. I am glad we did, as we had a great time and the night was beautiful.

I bought my ticket online, so there was no waiting in line to get in. We were pleasantly surprised with the amount of people there and how careful we all were. The Fair organizers had it very well arranged so that we could get to the food area and the tables were all distanced. When we went to the barn, you walked in one end and could only go out the other side and you were only allowed in with masks. The same went for the Hall, to look at the exhibits.

It was great to see some people we had not seen in a while, but it took time to recognize them with masks on.

The bonus for the night was the moon over Sweetened Water Pond on the way home. The sky was clear and the moon was bright and lit up the field. One of my favorite places.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
