Canada Goose hunting season begins in Massachusetts a half hour before dawn on Wednesday, Sept. 1. The season continues through Sept. 24. The daily bag limit is 15 birds.

The season usually begins after Labor Day but was set earlier this year to reduce non-migratory numbers. Resident Canada geese do not migrate as they are descendants of captive migratory birds, whose wings were clipped and used to lure migratory birds within shotgun range. The practice was outlawed in the 1930s.
