Bow hunting began 30 minutes before dawn today, Oct. 4., signaling the start of deer hunting season on the Island.

Bow season runs through Nov. 27, with shotgun season following from Nov. 29 to Dec. 11, and primitive firearm season running from Dec. 13 to Dec. 31.

Hunting is allowed on-Island Monday through Saturday, a half hour before dawn to a half hour after sunset.

Hikers are advised to take care when walking in the woods the next three months and to wear bright colors.
