November opened with a tantrum but has now adopted a conciliatory attitude, all golden colors and clear skies, as if the storm never even happened. Only really good-looking months can get away with this, but I for one am falling for it pretty hard.

There will be a celebration of Kent Healy’s life at noon on Dec. 4 at the Ag Hall. Please bring a dish to share. Masks will be required. If you have any questions, you can call the Town Administrator at (508) 696-0102.

She belonged to Aquinnah, but the whole island mourns the loss of June Manning, who was widely known and loved here. Sympathy to her fantastic family and her many, many friends.

At 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 13, the West Tisbury Library will host a live concert featuring Duo Amie, a Boston-based cello and piano duo. Cellist Julie Reimann and pianist Ellyses Kuan will perform their Shall We Dance? program, with music by Piazzolla, Elizondo, Saint-Saens, Bartok and Shostakovich. Reserve your seat on the library website.

On Sunday, Nov. 14, the Trustees of Reservations is hosting Duck Day at the winter entrance of Long Point Wildlife Refuge. There will be waterfowl-themed crafts, activities and a scavenger hunt. This month is usually all about turkeys, so it’s nice to see other birds getting some respect. Pre-registration is recommended; check out the Trustees’ website.

The West Tisbury Climate Advisory Committee has a Facebook page now and it’s well worth a visit. There are great links to climate-conscious initiatives in other communities, as well as announcements for upcoming local events.

The effervescent Julie Meader will host a Zumba class at the Howes House on Wednesdays at 3 p.m., starting in December. This one’s for everybody, whether in a chair, on foot, or any which way. Zumba is a great workout set to fantastic music and this six-week series is sure to light up the darkest weeks of winter. I am mentioning this ahead of time so that people can tuck into their autumn chilis and stews and breads with abandon, safe in the knowledge that everything can be resolved once Zumba starts.

Town meeting is next week. Do you have a ride secured, a childcare plan, your knitting packed? I love the people who knit during meetings. It would be great if we also had someone pressing cider in the back of the gym.

I just read that the island has lost 600 units of year-round housing in the last decade because of short-term and seasonal rentals. Pretty sure it’s soul-searching time.
