Whether is it is fair or freezing, raining or snowing on Saturday it won’t matter for the runners of the 20-miler as they take a fleet-footed tour of the Island.

The race is an annual rite of passage for those looking to come out of the winter doldrums and those gearing up for the Boston Marathon. And for those not yet ready for the full 20-miles, there is the Amity Island Relay to be done with a partner, each participant logging in 10 miles.

This year there are plenty of all types as the race is already sold out for runners. But spectators are urged to cheer the runners on all over the Island.

The race begins at 11 a.m. at the Vineyard Haven Steamship Authority terminal. From there runners head to Oak Bluffs, pass by the Camp Ground, then travel down Beach Road to take in the views of the Sound and Sengekontack Pond. In Edgartown runners visit the farms and some more farms and then finally enter the state forest and finish up at the Oak Bluffs school.

The men’s course record is held by Patrick Moulton of Providence, R.I. (1:48:34), the women’s course by Sarah Nixon of Medfield (2:04:22).
