The pair of big barges that have been tied to Memorial Wharf since last September have departed. The little tugboat and crew boat were loaded on deck. Even over the short nine months that they were here, those boats managed to grow seaweed a foot long below the waterline.

The last section of bulkhead repair is well underway. This is the area behind the ferry bumper wall. A reinforced concrete cap is poured over the top of the old steel and two feet of shiny new bulkhead is welded atop that. Then the parking lot will be smoothed out again and repaved. In the future, the whole parking lot surface will be raised two feet.

The Pied Piper, the Falmouth to Edgartown Ferry, begins its daily shuttle this Friday, June 17. Reservations are recommended and you can pay on-line. Last Saturday afternoon they boarded a full summertime boatload.
