Planning for the 41st annual Christmas in Edgartown parade is officially underway as select board members approved a Santa-sized list of permits at their meeting on Monday. The weekend of yuletide activities will take place from Dec. 8 to Dec. 11.
Edgartown Board of Trade vice president Julia Tarka is the elf-in-charge of the event, which will include horse-drawn carriages through the Harbor View Hotel, a holiday market, and the much-anticipated lighting of the Edgartown Lighthouse ceremony on Memorial Wharf.
The parade will take place on Dec. 10 and will travel from Dock street down Main street. Ms. Tarka also requested permission for unamplified music every day of the weekend in the form of carolers and potentially a solo bagpipe player.
“Thank you, Julia – you have a lot of work ahead of you,” select board member Margaret Serpa said after every item was approved.
Street banners advertising the weekend of events will go up shortly after Thanksgiving, Ms. Tarka said.
