The Aquinnah select board Tuesday set a new tax rate for fiscal year 2023 of $6.10 for every $1,000 of assessed property value, down nearly a full per cent from last year’s rate of $6.27.

But the rate drop will still result in increased payments for taxpayers, as the town’s tax base rose close to $1 billion.

Harald Scheid of Regional Resource Group gave a presentation to the board by Zoom Tuesday morning, noting that the average property taxe bill will increase by $935 dollars relative to last year.

The average single family home valuation is $1.79 million, according to Mr. Scheid.

Following the presentation, the board voted unanimously to adopt the new rate.
