The federal Bureau of Ocean Energy Management has released a draft environmental impact statement for two large commercial wind farm projects planned for south of Martha’s Vineyard.
The projects — Park City Wind and Commonwealth Wind — will provide a combined 2,600 megawatts of offshore wind energy in a federal lease area about 20 miles south of the Island. The projects are just southwest of Vineyard Wind, which began construction earlier last month.
The release of the draft environmental impact statement is an important milestone for the developments, and initiates a 60-day public comment period that ends Feb. 21, 2023.
Park City Wind and Commonwealth Wind’s proposals include up to 129 wind turbines and up to five offshore electrical service platforms with a total of five offshore export cables, according to the agency.
Public meetings on the projects have been scheduled for Friday, Jan. 27, 2023 at 1:00 pm , Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2023 at 5:00 p.m. and Monday, Feb. 6, 2023 at 5:00 p.m. A virtual meeting room will be on BOEM’s website.
