The breach at the southeast corner of Katama Bay is alive and well. Water is flowing freely in both directions. The opening seems to be growing wider, mostly by eroding at the eastern side. It’s anybody’s guess how long it will take for the whole thing to migrate all of the way to Muskeget Channel where the north-south currents will reattach Norton Point to Chappaquiddick.

The big news in the world of astronomy is about a rare green comet. Apparently you need binoculars or a telescope to see it now. By Jan. 31, when it should be at its brightest, it will be near Polaris, the north star. Google the term green comet to get all of the details about where to look for it each night. This comet will move quickly across the sky, so it will be hard to find without some guidance from the experts.
