The Edgartown School went into lockdown Tuesday morning after receiving an anonymous threat. Superintendent of schools Richie Smith sent out a notice that the lockdown was lifted later in the morning and classes resumed.

“The police believe this to be a hoax as many schools across the Commonwealth have received similar calls today,” Mr. Smith wrote in the release.

Mr. Smith said there would be continued police presence at all Island schools the next two days as an added precaution.
