We are still dodging the snow card. Yes, we got a covering but compared to the rest of the state we are doing okay. I don’t mind the snow but I think I am now in spring mode. But who knows what is going to happen next?

Happy Birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons went out to Olivia Coyle on Feb. 19, Layla Carlos and Brooklyn Petersen on Feb. 21, Wyatt Grady and Luca Quinton on Feb. 22, Matheus Lage and Otavio Xavier on Feb. 24, Valentina Santana on March 1 and Emily Alimateia on March 2. Callie Oteri celebrates her day on March 3.

I have been seeing a lot of people saying that they saw someone taking a dip in the ocean. I know there is a Polar Bear Club but I get the chills just thinking about the water.

My chiropractor, Dr Bryan McShea, is a member of the Amity Running Club and when you see him, he wears shorts and no shirt. He takes a quick dip almost every day. I love talking to him about it but he says it sometimes hurts, so the dip is brief and then he goes right to the car where the heat is on. He has studied cryogenics and how good it is for your body, plus saltwater helps the toxins in your body.

It is all very interesting, but I will just be watching. I know there are more people here who take their daily dips.

In the last two and a half years I have had two good friends move north. Sandy and Vinny Alestra chose to retire to New Hampshire. Sandy was a bookkeeper but her last job was many years at the hospital in the doctor’s offices. Vinny was a UPS driver. I talk to Sandy often and they are loving their life as they are free to visit their children and grandchildren whenever and they can be with them on birthdays and holidays.

I see pictures of the snow they have. I know Sandy likes the snow. I don’t think Vinny minds it — and he has a great new snowblower to play with. I know they are happy in their new home and are getting use to their surroundings.

Beth and Bill Erickson chose Maine as a retirement home. Their daughter Laura, grandchildren and two great-grandchildren live up there.

Beth worked at Dukes County Savings Bank for many years and her last job was at Morning Glory. Bill hauled and overwintered sailboats and did repairs as needed. In Maine, they are enjoying fixing up their new house and Bill has a shop that he is working on.

They have not experienced a full winter of snow yet but Beth called and said that they just have to get used to listening to the weathermen and believing them. Here, we hear the weathermen say snow and instead, we get rain and fog. The other day the weathermen said three inches of snow and Beth and Bill did get that amount on top of the snow they already had. It does not bother them but they just like to be prepared. They, too, are happy and that’s all that matters.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
