Spring ahead this weekend! Don’t be late for church. I actually find all this interesting but disruptive.

PathwayArts in Chilmark. Always free, always imaginative and innovative. Please participate. On Friday, March 10, they’ll hold a celebration of International Women’s Day. There will be music, dance and spoken word. These are artists you can’t miss. I’ll see you there.

My dear neighbors Piper Murphy and her daughter Mary Afton Crandall had the best time driving up to Boston on Sunday and attending a matinee of the musical Hamilton. At the Opera House! They enjoyed it so much.

Yoga is back at the Howes House on Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to noon. Everyone welcome. Ten dollars admission.

Our MVRHS hockey team beat Fitchburg in the first round. Keep going, team!

Great news for our town. The Chicken Alley Thrift Shop on Lagoon Pond Road is now open until 7 p.m. on Thursday nights. A relief for those who work all day. And a 20 percent discount on most items on Thursday.

Our own Skip Finley — an award-winning author, historian and member of the board of trustees at Mystic Seaport Musuem — gave a talk at the seaport museum on Feb. 25. The Afro American Genealogical Society awarded Skip the best non-fiction of 2020 prize for his book Whaling Captains of Color. I am proud to say I have read all his books.

I cannot describe my sadness at learning my dear young friend Nate Gray has passed. Beloved son of Jack and Claire, brother of Monica, committed to his dog, friend to all. There will be a celebration of Nate at the Ag Hall on Saturday, March 18 at 2 p.m.

Get well wishes are extended to Renee Ortiz. After her heart attack and airflight to Boston she is now recuperating at her son’s house in Fairhaven. Blessings on Renee.

Longtime Main street resident Clara Banta Kennedy becomes a centenarian on March 10. Her milestone was celebrated in late February when her eldest son and next-door neighbor Kevin Kennedy hosted a 100th birthday party. More than 40 family members and local Island friends gathered with Clara for dinner, cake and toasts.

More news from the birthday bandwagon. It pulled along Ross Swiriduk on Feb. 27. March 1 was shared by Bill Bellinger and Thea Hansen. March 2 belongs to Leide Prata. March 5 was claimed by Glen Andrews. And on March 6 Gretchen Baer and David and Doug Seward took the cake. Many happy returns.
