The annual Town Meeting is next Tuesday, April 11. One of the articles pertains to the Chappy Ferry and should be of interest to all Chappaquiddickers. Article 27 reads: “To see if the Town will vote to appropriate from Free Cash the sum of $50,000.00 to conduct an analysis of potential governance options for the future disposition of the Chappaquiddick Ferry in order to ensure the ferry service remains effective and efficient in its service of the community.”

I think that this is a smart and responsible idea. Let’s get someone who is educated in this sort of operation to do a thorough assessment and recommend the best way to keep it going. No offense to the volunteers of the steering committee but a subjective long view is needed in the discussions. Given that the voting population of Chappy is a small percentage of Edgartown voters, you will need to demonstrate lots of support for this expenditure at town meeting.

The Chappaquiddick Community Center has already put together a couple of summer programs that will broaden your horizons. Two authors, Chappy’s own Julia Spiro and Don McLagan, are lined up to speak about their passion for writing. Three performances of the Classical Music Series are scheduled for July.

Activities continue at the CCC. Yoga on Sundays. Island walks on Tuesdays. Potlucks on the third Wednesday of every month. And the final scrapbooking get-together will be held this Friday and Saturday. Check the website for more information. The first ice cream social is only 11 weeks away.
