The Island police departments did not disappoint with the April Fools jokes they posted. I can barely wait until next year.

Ichthyophagous was the word of the day on my calendar this morning. Janet Messineo-Israel is one. I am guessing her husband Tristan Israel is also. It means a person who eats fish. At this time last year Janet was invited to speak at a fishing club on Long Island. Her expertise goes far and wide. This year she and Tristan headed for warmer climes. They are vacationing and fishing on a lovely, warm island in the Caribbean. Casting into the light.

A Shark Tank-style contest was held by our Martha’s Vineyard Chamber of Commerce. I must have missed this the last time we had it on-Island, four years ago. Each entrepreneur had five minutes to pitch their business and propose why it will help the Island. Del Araujo of Aquila, open in Aquinnah at the Cliff Shops and now at the snack shop at our YMCA, won first prize of $10,000. He received a standing ovation. Second prize was $5,000 and the third prize was $2,500. Congratulations to all.

Susan Goldstein and her family are thrilled to announce they have a new manager at The Mansion House. His name is Sam Tyree. He comes with a great resume for such a great hotel. Welcome, Sam!

Any event I have ever attended at our Martha’s Vineyard Public Charter School is a treasure. Get ready for their annual end of season play. This year it is a comedy and adventure. The Witch’s Princess will show on Thursday, April 6, Friday, April 7, and Saturday, April 8 at 6 p.m. and there is a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday. All performances will be at our Grange Hall. I’ll see you there!

Our talented musicians Rosie Guerin and Jeremy Berlin will offer jazz music at the West Tisbury library for free on Sunday, April 9 at 2:30 p.m. That is another place you will find me.

I missed a Vineyard Haven Public Library talk about pointillism in the style of George Seurat. Teri Praskach and I always argued about this. I like pointillism; she did not. I miss her so.

Remember: Easter lilies are very poisonous to cats.

Our MV Cyano, launched in 2021 to check bacteria in our ponds, has issued a warning on Chilmark Pond and James Pond. Blue green algae can cause serious bacterial infections in people and animals.

Get well wishes go out to my dear friend Pam Alley. Pam is what the nuns used to call “accident prone.” But she is getting better.

The birthday bandwagon pulled along Johann Sebastian Bach on March 31. Bach was fortunate to share his birthday with Hollis Kelly, the son of Piper Murphy and Drew Kelly. Not only was it Hollis’s 22nd birthday but he will graduate from St. Michael’s College in Vermont on Mother’s Day. Hollis is majoring in environmental studies, which is so needed now.

My cousin Tom Spiconardi shared April 2 with Ted Box and Michael Barnes. Adorable Liam Adler turned two on April 3. My favorite twins, Charley and Chrissy McCarthy, shared Liam’s day with him. And on April 4, Amber Willoughby took the cake. Many happy returns.
