Just as tick season accelerates, community members will have an opportunity to hear about current trends with tick-borne diseases on Martha’s Vineyard. Island Health Care, Vineyard Medical Care, the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital, Island Tick-Borne Disease Initiative and and the Fledgling Fund are collaborating to hold a conference titled Tick-Borne Disease of Martha’s Vineyard that will take place on June 10.

The free event will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Katharine Cornell Theatre in Vineyard Haven.

The goal of the event is to provide medical clinicians and the general public with practical information about acute diagnosis, treatment and prevention.

The primary speakers for discussions and a panel include Dr. Sam Telford of Tufts University, an authority on tick epidemiology and diseases; Dr. Robert Smith of Maine Medical Center, an authority on infectious disease and tick-borne diseases; and Patrick Roden-Reynolds, the public health biologist at Island Health Care and the Tick-Borne Disease Initiative. Dr. Gerry Yukevich, a physician at Vineyard Medical Care, will moderate.
