Danielle Charbonneau, a teacher at the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School and the 2023 Massachusetts Teacher of the Year, joined other state teachers of the year from across the country who participated in the National Teacher of the Year Program Washington Week during late April.

Ms. Charbonneau is the director of Project Vine, the alternative education program at MVRHS. She was announced as the 2023 Massachsetts Teacher of the Year in September 2022. She is the first teacher from the Vineyard to receive the Commonwealth’s highest honor for educators.

On April 24, the 2023 State Teachers of the Year were honored at the White House by President Biden, First Lady Jill Biden and U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona. A highlight for Ms. Charbonneau was speaking at a town-hall style meeting with Mrs. Biden and Mr. Miguel Cardona. Ms. Charbonneau voiced some of the concerns of Project Vine students, as well as talked about the success of the alternative model at the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School.
