Commander Alexander B. Baynes of the United States Navy was promoted to his present rank on Oct. 1, 2022 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Mr. Baynes is an engineering duty officer qualified in submaries who is currently assigned to the U.S. Naval Air Force Pacific Fleet in Yokosuka, Japan.

Mr. Baynes is a 2000 graduate of Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School and a 2004 graduate of Cornell University. He holds multiple graduate degrees and a doctorate in applied physics from Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif. and a master of science degree in management science and engineering from Stanford University.

He is the son of Leslie and Judy Baynes from Edgartown.
