Fog, humidity and warm weather have set in. It is almost a given for the Fourth of July. I know there a lot of people who are very happy that the heat has set in, but I have to admit I was loving the cool nights for sleeping.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Amera Mello, who celebrated on June 25 and to Emma Walterdorf who celebrates her day on June 30.

Every once in a while, I like to update the news of “The Beach Gang.” I have reported many times about our gang who went to the beach every Sunday. We would all pack coolers with food for the day and meet at 10 a.m. and some days stayed till sundown. There were many families then they added to their family and so on.

Today at work, Willa Welch, who landscapes with Jenn at Multiflora, came in and I got the update on her and her sisters. Willa is a junior at Northeastern University and will be leaving in a couple of weeks to work in Boston. Josie just graduated from high school and finished sixth in her class. She will be going to Boston College in the fall. Bea, the baby of the family, will be a junior in high school this year. They are the daughters of Sean Welch and Erica Welch. Lee and Cheryl Welch, who brought the girls in their boat for most of the beach days, are their grandparents. Time sure does fly but we are proud of them all.

I can’t believe it is the Fourth of July already. The colors are starting to fly, people are preparing for company and Joe Sollitto is busy organizing the parade.

I will, as I have for the past 30 years, prepare for The Colonial Navy to gather in my yard as they wait for the parade to start. It is always a pleasure as they eat some lunch, drink some grog and then warm up. I feel as though I have my own personal concert. Of course, the people passing by also enjoy it.

Whatever you are doing on July Fourth enjoy your day and be safe.

Sandy and Vinnie Alestra made a visit to the Island last week. They were able to visit with family and friends. Vinnie got some squiding in. Sandy visited with her Aunt Geri Jackson and took a walk on the beach with her friend Melinda. I even had a few hours to visit. They were happy to visit but were happy to get back to their home in New Hampshire.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
