On July 15, the Grange Hall in West Tisbury will be the site for a Celebrate disABILITY Festival.
At 5:30 p.m., a free community picnic will be held. An art exhibit, videos and decor created by local organizations supporting independence, creativity and inclusion will be on display and Tony Smalls — known as Tony the Pony — will visit. No tickets are required.
A screening of Alexandra Shiva’s 2015 documentary How to Dance in Ohio will begin at 7 p.m. The film tells the story of teens and young adults on the autism spectrum as they grow and connecting while preparing for a spring formal. Tickets for the screening are general admission and offered as pay what you can.
Circuit Arts, the multidisciplinary arts nonprofit based at the hall, is producing the festival in partnership with the Island Disability Coalition, Island Autism Group, Vineyard Independence Partnership, Martha's Vineyard Community Services, Camp Jabberwocky, the Navigator and Voyager programs at the Martha's Vineyard Regional High School and Misty Meadows Equine Learning Center.
