Adoptions are happening. Black cat brothers Smokey and Bandit have been adopted together, just like we’d hoped. And black bunny Peter has an adoption pending. Won’t someone come for his brother Teddy? He’s hand-raised, adores people and is a true snuggle bunny.
This week our featured pet is Evie Mc Chi Chi, a black, Dutch lop eared, female rabbit. She is a princess and comes with a three-tier cage/house on wheels that is easy to assemble. She is friendly and loves to be petted and have her ears gently played with — but she needs a little time to get used to you before feeling comfortable with petting and handling. She is fearful of strangers at first; it takes a few days for her to warm up but she is a happy bunny once she settles in. Evie is currently with her family so please contact the shelter if you would like to make an appointment to meet her.
We have a dog who really needs a home. Teddy is a medium-sized, short-coated, mixed breed who looks to have some hound in him. His markings are white and brindle and he’s a happy, playful boy who loves his toys. Teddy does have some reactivity issues, for which he is undergoing training quite successfully, but his training will need to be continued in his new home. He also is not a fan of cats.
Did you know that, when requested, an animal can remain in its home until adopted? A behavioral assessment is done to be sure the animal can be safely adopted, and does not pose any physical or medical hazards. We then refer potential adopters to the pet’s owner.
The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard is here for our community. We’re always available and our door is always open should your adoption not be a perfect fit. Also, if anyone is in need of cat food, dog food, or a crate, we have plenty and are happy to share. The Island Food Pantry also has pet food for those in need. Just give us a call during regular shelter hours.
The shelter phone number is 508-627-8662. Hours are: Tuesday, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Thursday; 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
