A 2019 Honda Civic grazed a roadside pole on South Road in Chilmark and flipped onto its roof on Saturday after the driver fell asleep at the wheel.

The crash happened at about 2:20 p.m. and the driver,  a 22-year-old male from Edgartown, was not injured, said Chilmark police chief Sean Slavin.

No evidence of drugs or alcohol were uncovered.

“The lesson learned is to wear a seatbelt,” Chief Slavin said.

The driver was charged with negligent operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stay within the marked lines and driving without a license.
