At the recent annual meeting of the Chappaquiddick Island Association, the assemblage agreed that there should be single-issue meetings throughout the summer. The intention will be to hold weekly meetings focusing on one entity at a time such as The Trustees of Reservation, Sheriff’s Meadow Foundation, Chappy Ferry, etc.
Even though every issue on Chappy is intertwined with many others, spending a couple of hours concentrating on one subject at each meeting is an opportunity to get more depth than at the general gathering. The Chappaquiddick Island Association board is asking for input on selecting a regular meeting time. Midweek evenings and Saturday mornings are being considered.
The deadline for submitting photos for the 2024 Chappy Community Center calendar is Friday, July 28 at 3 p.m. The entry photos will be exhibited at the center from July 31 through August 20 for voting on the 14 favorite images to be shown in next year’s calendar.
Among the many events planned at the Chappy Community Center, of particular note are the Classical Music series presenting the Far Cry string quartet on Saturday, July 29 at 7:30 p.m. and Poetry Night with Island poets on Tuesday, August 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. Check the community center’s calendar on the website for lots more information and activities. Summer is only half over and the calendar is crowded with programs to keep you, your children and your guests busy.
The New York Yacht Club cruise will make Edgartown its port of call on Thursday night August 3 while en route from Nantucket to Cuttyhunk. Back in the ‘60s the arrival created a forest of masts by day and a constellation of lights by night in the outer harbor.

If you are looking for Chappy-based services and contractors, see the list posted on the bulletin board at the ferry point. Always better to have folks who are already on Chappy and taking care of Chappy.
