We have been up and down with the weather. Rain, thunderstorms and humidity. The breezes have been the saver for the hot weather and I am grateful for sea breezes.
Happy Birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Izabella da Silva, who celebrated August 13, Aydan Roginski on August 15, Victor Dutra and Alicia Guimaraes on August 16 and to Gabriel De Souza, Heitor Lacerda and Maria Pizzico who celebrate their day on August 18.
It has been a busy weekend. The traffic was backed up on all roads and it took a bit longer than usual to get to our destinations. Among all the hustle and bustle, our Vice President Kamala Harris was among the visitors this weekend to attend some of the events.
When I was 19, I was like many people in Massachusetts who wanted George McGovern to be president. I was in college and living with my brother Frank and his family. Frank announced that we were going to T.F. Green Airport because Richard Nixon was going to land there on his campaign tour. I was adamant that I was not going and he told me to get in the car and asked me how many presidents I had seen in my life. Needless to say, I went and it was awesome to see him.
Years later I used the same line on Frank’s son Doug while he was visiting us and President Bill Clinton was here. We got a glimpse of him jogging. It was worth the trip.
So even though a visit like that means stopped traffic and waiting a few extra minutes, yes, I would have loved to have gotten a glimpse of the vice president.
College students are already making their way to their schools. Some have already started but most will be happening in a few weeks. I hope they all have a great year. Be safe and study hard.
If you get a chance, there are two more weeks of concerts on the lawn at the Edgartown Library. They take place at 6:30 on Tuesday night. They only last an hour and they are free. Some people bring a sandwich or pizza, something easy to eat. The library has cookies, lemonade and sometimes watermelon to share. They put out a jar for donations to help with some of the costs.
Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
