Our talented Kate Feiffer will be a big part of Islanders Write, two days of workshops and discussions for those of us bitten by the writing bug. The program begins on Sunday, August 20 at Featherstone Center for the Arts. I’ll see you there.

Other talented artists entered their work in the annual All Island Art Show. Kathy Poehler sold one of her famous mermaid paintings made from Island seaweed. She also won a blue ribbon. There will be a large show of 10 Island artists at Old Sculpin Gallery beginning August 19. It is the last show of the summer in which my good friend Anna Lowely Finnerty will be showing her work.

Our NAACP of Martha’s Vineyard is looking for volunteers to help at our booth at the Agricultural Fair. Put in some time and enjoy the fair. The next general membership meeting is Saturday, August 19 at 11 a.m.

Our dear friend Luna Lucia Harre is visiting with Gerry Franzago and Ria Cimeno. Luna has been here and working all summer. She did have time to celebrate her 21st birthday on August 7 with friends and a birthday dinner. Best wishes for your next new year.

We say goodbye to our longtime summer resident Charles Ogletree, a civil rights scholar and lawyer who taught at Harvard. Professor Ogletree died on August 4.

Get well wishes go out to Ria Cimeno. Ria is recovering very nicely from hip replacement surgery.

Anniversary bouquets go out to Judith Campbell and her husband Chris. They celebrated 30 years on August 14.

The birthday bandwagon pulled along Tennessee Boyd on August 6. August 7 was a party for Sandie Corr-Dolby. Mark Steponaitis claimed August 9. Annette Sandrock took August 10 along with Jen Dunham. August 12 was for Tom Corr. And on August 15, Carolyn Walters, Brooke Aubin and Kate Taylor took the cake. Many happy returns. I’ll see you at the fair.
