What a perfect week for all the activities. I know it rained last Friday but I am someone who thinks everything happens for a reason, and what more could you have asked for than a Saturday with the sky perfect for the fireworks that had been cancelled on Friday night? Plus, the temperature was just right.
Happy Birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Henry Banks and Carreik Roye, who celebrated on August 19; Gusttavo Dias on August 20; Rafhaella da Silva and Andre Mejia-Castro on August 21; and to Anna Rodriques who celebrated on August 24.
Just like that, it is the end of August. They were mowing the grass at the school this morning and getting the fields ready for school to open. It has been a good summer around the school, baseball field and tennis courts. I saw people playing croquet, a family was playing whiffle ball and the guys were playing soccer. Of course, there were parents with young children on the slides and other toys in the playground. It is nice that all the activities will not stop when school starts; the guys play soccer on a regular basis.
September is the time for weddings, school beginnings and in a few weeks the Derby will start. The chrysanthemums are starting to creep into the nursery, along with ornamental peppers and cabbages. It is my favorite time of year for flower colors. People are trying to revamp their pots and windowboxes, trying to keep summer colors going. It is a fun time of year.
Getting ready for work and listening to the news and weather, the forecast for this winter sounds like a cold one. The Old Farmer’s Almanac predicts snow and very cold temperatures for January — and even a snowstorm in April. So, we can only prepare and then hope for the best.
Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
