Mark your calendars for the next potluck at the Chappy Community Center on Wednesday, Oct. 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. In the meantime, yoga with Jay continues on Sundays at 8:30 a.m.

The next household hazardous materials collection will be on Saturday, Oct. 21 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Martha’s Vineyard refuse district transfer station near the airport.

The last day of the summer schedule on the Chappy Ferry is Sunday, Oct. 15. That’s also the day that the On Time III will head for Vineyard Haven to be hauled out of the water for maintenance and Coast Guard inspection. Keep in mind that only the shorter On Time II will be carrying all of the traffic, so give yourself extra time to get across with a vehicle.

Chappaquiddickers are making a respectable showing in the derby. In week one Suzanne Pond was female leader in the shore bluefish category and so far, in week three, Melissa Sliwkowski holds that honor. Rick Schifter is in second place in the overall division for boat bluefish with a fly rod. In the shore team division, Julie and Salvatore Tummino of Chappy Double Trouble are in ninth place, with Salvatore holding thirteenth place in the Triple Crown.

My favorite group are the daily mystery prize winners Bob Bottary, Jeff Fager, Oliver Filley, Kevin Peters, Stephan Pond and Rick Schifter.

The derby is only half over so it’s still anybody’s prize of a boat.
