There are some very proud parents on Martha’s Vineyard, and deservedly so. My dear friend Carol Borselle is thrilled to learn her son Jay and Matt Shearer have received their fourth Edward R. Murrow Award in New York City for their work at WBZ NewsRadio. Congratulations to these stellar young men.

On the other end of the spectrum, Lyrae Littlefield and her husband Dan Edelbach have welcomed their second child, Coulson Robert Edelbach. He was 5 pounds, 11 ounces and 18 inches long. Big sister Jemma is a delighted six-year old. Welcome to the world, Coulson! A very exciting week here.

Island author and Renaissance woman Kanta Lipsky has a new book for Jemma and Coulson to enjoy, Pinkletink the Froggie. Your own kids and grandkids can find it at Island bookstores.

This is the big weekend for the ultimate Jaws tour, backed by our chamber of commerce, David Bigelow and Homegrown Tours. There are still seats left for Saturday, Oct. 14 at 9 a.m. Tickets are $85. The MVRHS girls soccer team will host the alumni game on Sunday, Oct. 22 on our home field at 11 a.m. Players of any age from the past teams are invited to participate. Let’s welcome them back and hope for good weather.

Barney Zeitz has a wonderful review of the new musical at our Vineyard Playhouse. Billy Baloo is an original musical written by Michael Mason, adapted by his son Willy Mason, with music by Jemima James. Many of our Island actors and musicians are in this. All you seed savers and gardeners are welcome on Saturday, Oct. 21 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Agricultural Hall to visit the Community Seed Library. This is part of that weekend’s Harvest Festival. Ask your questions and bring your materials to save seeds for the next growing season. The seed library is put on with the help of Island Grown Initiative.

The birthday bandwagon pulled along Peter Wuerth last week with a special gathering of friends at the Town Bar and Grill. Oct. 10 was celebrated by Duncan Pickard, Leif Counter, Bruce Zucks and Rob Lytle. And on Oct. 11 Frank Baltz took the cake. Many happy returns.
