We were in T-shirts and flip-flops on Saturday and now we are in sweatshirts, warm socks and shoes. It is November, so we cannot complain and now we can officially turn on the heat.
Happy Birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Scarlett LaBonte and Akhalia Lewis, who celebrated Oct. 30, Samantha De Freitas on Nov. 1, Jesse Reed on Nov. 2 and to Davi Soares, who celebrates his day on Nov. 3.
At Donaroma’s, we dressed for Halloween with a theme but I have to say that the Martha’s Vineyard Bank staff never seems to disappoint with their competitions every year. Thank you, social media, so we could see each branch here and in Falmouth. I could not decide on who to vote for as each branch had its own uniqueness. Congratulations to all.
Now that Halloween is over, it is time to take down the jack-o-lanterns. Please be mindful: if you don’t compost them, please check the Mass Audubon website for instructions on what you can do with the shell. The chickadees and finches love the seeds.
Scat Happens, the name of the 42nd annual Felix Neck Fall Festival, will take place on Friday, Nov. 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Head to Felix Neck Wildlife Sanctuary for a favorite Islandwide tradition, with many activities planned and something for everyone. There is no admission fee this year, thanks to sponsorships from Martha’s Vineyard Shipyard and Working Earth Organic Gardening and Landscaping. If you would like to be a volunteer or would like more information, please call 508-627-4850 or email felixneck@massaudubon.org.
I am trying to not be annoying but it is starting to get real. Halloween has come and gone. We turn the clocks back this weekend; the Christmas trees, wreaths and greens will be here in less than two weeks; the poinsettias are on their way; and it is time to think about starting the amaryllis so they will be blooming for Christmas. I am hearing people planning their meals and pies for Thanksgiving and who will be here and who will not. Plus, there is shopping to do.
Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
