We hit the jackpot with the weather on Sunday, but I could not tell which was worse: me getting on a new sleeping schedule and dinner routine, or the dog and cat looking at me at their regular feeding time and thinking I am never going to feed them again. Then of course, there is the darkness at 5 p.m. but I personally like it lighter in the morning as I am an early riser.

Happy Birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Bernardo Amaral, Jaylon Armstrong, Brooklyn Cancellare and Zoe Tucker, who all celebrated Nov. 4; Emma Braillard and Jamison DeMello, Nov. 5; Sophia Dos Santos and Michael Leahy, Nov. 8; and to Luke Burr, Sienna Crowell, Rahjae Hail, Demyen Rahjae and Alice Martin, who all celebrate their day on Nov. 9.

As I drove by the Stop & Shop and saw the cases and signs in the new section, I wondered how much longer it will be for the grand opening. I thought about how many changes this store has been through and of course back to the A&P.

I worked in the meat room, wrapping meat with Janice Vieira. Frank Jardin was the meat room manager and he was a great manager. We were always busy but with Frank around you never knew what was going to happen; you never knew what was going on in his devilish head. He always had a prank or two for all of us.

We also had Kevin Nichols, Steven Waller and Joe LaValley. Steven, Joe and Kevin just went along with the flow. Janice and I would try and tame the kids down.

It was hard when Thanksgiving came along. We would take turkey orders and try to keep track of all the turkeys in a small area, put the right tag on the right bird and remember which bin it was in. We had a great system and it was a chance to meet some of the customers. Like every other job there was sometimes a glitch here and there, but it wasn’t anything we couldn’t fix.

The paperwhites are in. We plant the bulbs now so you can have them blooming for Thanksgiving and hopefully they last until Christmas. They are so pretty but there is always a debate on their aroma. I personally do not like the scent but there are people who love it. What is even more interesting is there is not an in-between opinion if you like it or not. They are fun to grow and they are a splash of happiness.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
