Santa Claus will be arriving on Friday, Dec. 8 via the Chappy Ferry for Christmas in Edgartown’s lighting of the lighthouse celebration. Depending on the weather and the ambition of his reindeer, we expect to have him on board around 5:30 p.m.

The Christmas in Edgartown parade will delay traffic leaving Chappy on Saturday, Dec. 9. The parade starts at 11 a.m. from the library. The route runs down Main street, turns onto North Water street and then turns up Winter street. That blocks the two exits for vehicles leaving town from the Chappy Ferry. The timing of the actual cut-off is hard to predict. Best to avoid that time of day altogether.

The Chappy Community Center will be hosting its annual Holiday Tea on Sunday, Dec. 10 from 2 to 4 p.m. Volunteers are needed to help decorate on Friday, Dec. 8 at 9 a.m. and to bake some sweets. If you are interested, please email the community center at chappyccenter@gmail.com.

The Ferry Captain and Crew Appreciation potluck will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. Please join to thank them for their service. Bring a dish for eight people to share. The appreciation dinner is a decades-old tradition that gives folks a chance to converse with the ferry captains and deckhands for more than the usual 60 seconds.

On Christmas Day, the Chappy Ferry will run on the hour during the morning with regular continuous service beginning at noon.
