Busy, busy. Chabad of Martha’s Vineyard had a menorah lighting ceremony and party at Owen Park on Dec. 11. All were welcome. There was a rock band, fire show, latkes, doughnuts and hot drinks.

Last Sunday, Santa appeared by fire truck on Main street. The kids were very excited. Many took advantage of the hay wagon rides through town.

Also last Sunday: Roberta Kirn led the 22nd annual Winter Concert and Community Sing. She is tireless and it was great.

Monday was a big washout. Some power outages on island, much flooding. Lots of erosion at our favorite beaches.

The report from our library is big. New books, holiday events. But first, please note that the library will be closed Saturday, Sunday and Monday. There will be no storytime on Dec. 18, 23 and 26. However, many new books are in.

The library will be offering three free movies for youngsters during the holiday week. On Dec. 26 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is playing. The Little Mermaid plays on Dec. 27 and Elemental will be on Dec. 28. All screenings happen from 3 to 5 p.m.

Our book reading group will reconvene in January. Be sure to register for Spice Club, a fabulous new program that happens over Zoom.

Our dear Corliss Raul Maciel, lovingly known as Corly, passed at Mass General Hospital on Dec. 17. Our condolences to brother Neal and family. Our sympathy to all his many friends.

The Island is still mourning the loss of Yossi Monahan. Yossi had a large Island family and many dear friends.

Get well wishes go out to Jen Dunham. Angela (Piper) Murphy also needs our prayers and encouragement.

The birthday bandwagon pulled along beautiful Patty Codding on Dec. 8. Austin Simonin celebrated on Dec. 17. Josh Crossland claims Dec. 23. Rene Moncada ages gracefully on Dec. 27. And on Dec. 28, Fred Shapiro takes the cake. Many happy returns.
