Former Edgartown School committee and Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School committee member Kimberly Kirk will rejoin the town school committee beginning with its Jan. 8 meeting.

Ms. Kirk, who lost a tight race for re-election to challenger Kelly Scott last year, was appointed in December by the Edgartown select board to the committee seat recently vacated by Laura Seguin. Ms. Kirk will fill out the term, which runs until the spring of 2025.

Ms. Seguin’s departure has also left an opening on the high school committee, where Ms. Kirk previously was among a narrow majority supporting the plan for an artificial turf field.

After losing her town school seat in April, Ms. Kirk caused some controversary by remaining on the high school committee through May, citing a provision in the six-town regional high school agreement.

The Edgartown School committee’s agenda for the Jan. 8 meeting begins with the selection of its next representative to the high school committee.
