West Tisbury may get its first pick your own blueberry farm within the next few years, after the planning board gave the prospective business the first necessary approval at a meeting Monday night.

The board voted to approve a new curb cut at the prospective four-acre blueberry farm at 225 Old County Road, allowing the owners to create a shorter driveway with less impact on endangered moths in the area.

“Our goal here was to think of something we could do that was consistent with West Tisbury as an agricultural community,” said Meg Carman, a member of the Carman Family Nominee Trust, which owns the property.

“We’re not really interested in getting into retail or teaching or offering pre-picked berries or anything like that. We want it to be very low key,” she said.

The farm is planned to have around 500 blueberry plants, with a prospective first picking season in 2026, said Ms. Carman’s son Steven Sredzienski. The plan has already received approval under the state Endangered Species Act program, and will next go before the town zoning board.
