The Martha’s Vineyard Cultural Council has announced its 2024 grants to support projects that improve quality of life for Island residents by promoting excellence, access, education and diversity in the arts, humanities and interpretive sciences.
Thirty awards in amounts ranging from $188 to $4,725 are being made to local independent artists, collectives and nonpprofits. The awardees include the Aquinnah Cultural Center for the 17th Annual Native Artisan Market and Festival, Abby Bender for Built on Stilts, Blactina Media for Black Children’s Reading Corner, Martha’s Vineyard Center for Living for Music and Memory Community Place and the Oak Bluffs Association for the LGBTQ+ Pride Weekend. A total of $33,000 is being distributed to Vineyard projects.
The local cultural council is responsible for awarding funds originating from Mass Cultural Council, the state’s arts council. For more information about the work of the state and Island councils, visit massculturalcouncil.org.
