Mark Alan Lovewell received the Dolphin Award at the 62nd annual Catboat Association annual meeting, held in Groton, Conn. last weekend.
Mr. Lovewell joined the Catboat Association in 2008, a membership of over 900, and hasserved the organization in many roles. Since 2013, he has organized the Martha’s Vineyard Rendezvous, hosting the gam at his home in Vineyard Haven. In 2014, he resurrected the Edgartown Rendezvous, hosting the event at the the Vose boathouse, the oldest building on Edgartown harbor.
The Dolphin award was established in 1975 to recognize a member “for exceptional service to the Catboat Association.” It is named after Dolphin, the last catboat owned by John Killam Murphy.
“Mark is an exceptionally cheerful presence who is always happy to talk about catboats and promote the mission of the Catboat Association,” said Tim Joost, a member of the awards committee, to the membership gathered in Groton.
