A portable dental service will offer free teeth cleanings to Island adults during select dates in February and April.

Islanders age 18 or older without regular dental care will be eligible to receive a routine cleaning by licensed hygienists from Polished LLC, a dental group that serves communities throughout Massachusetts with aid from a state grant. The upcoming cleanings are also sponsored by the Martha’s Vineyard Community Foundation, Vineyard Smiles and the Island boards of health.

Polished LLC is led by longtime hygienist Ellen Gould, who has been providing pop-up dental cleanings for over 20 years.

“All of our equipment is made for portable programs, so the chairs and everything fold right up and we carry in and carry out,” Ms. Gould said. “We don’t replace dentists...but we provide preventative care for people, which has been an enormous help for the general population.”

Patients may request an appointment by texting 978-549-0659 or emailing polishedvhca@gmail.com. February dates are already booked but Islanders are welcome to join a waiting list, said Ms. Gould.
