The next Chappy Community Center potluck supper is on Wednesday, Feb. 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. Potlucks are scheduled for the third Wednesday of the month throughout the off-season.

Yoga with Jay continues on Sundays from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. If you haven’t tried yoga yet, here is a golden opportunity without even leaving Chappy. See the CCC website calendar for a bio on our yoga teacher and why yoga is for everyone.

Speaking of calendars, have you gotten your 2024 CCC photo contest calendar yet? Order online, have it mailed or pick it up at the center. As long as you’re ordering, better get two and send one to an off-island friend. The calendar is a fundraiser for the center to meet maintenance expenses.

The Edgartown highway department has brought dozens of truckloads of road hardener over to Chappy to repair erosion of various town roads that have suffered from the recent string of storms.

We are in the midst of a string of astronomically very-high morning tides that have routinely slopped up onto the pavement of Dock street and the Chappy Point parking lot. During the year that the most recent Wasque breach was flowing, only the fiercest storms pushed sea water onto the pavement. Now that the breach has closed, the leak that kept Katama Bay waters low has been sealed off. The last several storms have washed away the high dunes of Norton Point.

Another good northeaster could open a breach and start the process all over again. Fortunately, every storm-less day, the waves and breeze rebuild the dunes little by little.
