There are no adoptions to report this week, but we are wondering why Astra and Ursa are still here.

Astra and Ursa are a mother and daughter pair of harlequin Great Danes. Astra is eight years of age, while Ursa is five and the larger of the two, and they each have one blue eye. These girls may be large but they are gentle giants, just very big couch potatoes that don’t require much exercise. Both are friendly, well mannered, get along with other dogs, cats and children of all ages.

If you’re not a dog person and would prefer a cat, Jerry is a four-year-old, male, black and white cat with artistic markings on his legs. Benny is an eight-year-old, rag doll mix who inherited stunning blue eyes. We’re looking for a special angel for Benny as he suffers from diabetes and needs insulin injections. However, he is a charming and affectionate fellow.

Save the date for the next nail clinic, which will take place on Saturday, March 2 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; walks-ins only, $20 cash or check. All Pets Medical Center returns on Saturday, Feb. 17. If you would like to schedule an appointment for your pet, please contact them at 508-743-8338.

Did you know that if anyone comes to the shelter with a hardship case, we will provide them with food for their pet? We also provide pet food to the Island Food Pantry.

The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard is here for our community. We’re always available and our door is always open should your adoption not be a perfect fit.

Also, if anyone is in need of cat food, dog food, or a crate, we have plenty and are happy to share. The Island Food Pantry also has pet food for those in need. Just give us a call during regular shelter hours at 508-627-8662.
