We are delighted to report that Jerry, the artistically-marked black and white cat, has found his forever home. Here’s to a lifetime of happiness.
Hey big dog people, our pets of the week are Astra and Ursa, a mother and daughter pair of harlequin Great Danes who each have one blue eye. Astra, although eight years of age, is just so sweet and she still enjoys playtime. Ursa is five, also very sweet, and the larger of the two. Ursa also likes to take care of Astra. These girls may be large but they are gentle giants, just large couch potatoes that don’t require much exercise or space. Both are friendly, well mannered and get along with other dogs, cats and children of all ages.
If you’re not a dog person but you’d prefer a cat we still have Benny, an eight-year-old, rag doll mix who inherited those beautiful blue eyes. We’re looking for a special angel for Benny; he suffers from diabetes and needs insulin injections. However, he is a charming fellow who enjoys playing; he’s affectionate and quite the purrer.

Did you know that when requested, an animal can remain in its home until adopted? The same entry assessment is performed to ensure that the animal is safe to be adopted, and then potential adopters are referred to the pet’s owner.
The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard is here for our community. We’re always available and our door is always open should your adoption not be a perfect fit. Also, if anyone is in need of cat food, dog food, or a crate, we have plenty and are happy to share. The Island Food Pantry also has pet food for those in need. Just give us a call during regular shelter hours.
The shelter phone number is 508-627-8662.
Hours are: Tuesday, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
