The stars, seas, sunlight and nearly everything positive aligned as people made their way to faraway places during February vacation week. As it’s been noted before, this is likely the quietest week in the shortest-feels-like-the longest month of the year.

Booker, Ida, Aly and Elisha Wiesner scurried off to the Sunshine State to visit family, wander beaches and replenish their depleted stockpiles of vitamin D.

Genc Brinja and Tim Carroll also made their way to sunny F-L-A. Friends in Fort Lauderdale, a pitstop at Disney and a few other little adventures enveloped by warm breezes and the need for sunglasses were a much-needed boost.

Bella Thorpe also headed to Florida for a quick break from her academic studies at UVM. She spent some time in winter horse country.

Meanwhile, her mom Julie Flanders made her way to her home away from home on the island of Kauai, Hawaii. Nieces Jessica and Mariah, along with their significant others Michael and Max, celebrated her birthday on Feb. 23. Forever friend Jen Iacopino made her way from New Hampshire to join them for a little R and R.

Meanwhile, back at home, German shepherd Zeb is frolicking on adventures with friends. Robert Coutinho had him for walkabout.

Mae and Nell Thompson opted for a little snow adventure with their folks Zoe and Simon. The slopes of Stowe called to them and they answered. Did I mention these folks added a corgi to their family a while back? They did and his name is Trout.

I was sorry to hear Kirk Safford died recently. I first met him one summer 30-something years ago when he wandered from Larsen’s Fish Market to the Texaco to get a stash of snacks for the summer staff. He always wore a smile, always spoke highly of his bride Kristine, their kids, grandkids and life in general. My condolences to the whole Safford-Scheffer-Larsen family.

Congratulations to Aquinnah resident, friend, mom and earth advocate Noli Taylor on her new title and associated responsibilities at Island Grown Initiative. Executive director of programs and outreach is her new title and, wow, she’s the right person for the job.

I mentioned last week that Anne Vanderhoop, an Aquinnah matriarch, was celebrating her 93rd birthday. Her daughter Juli put a shout-out for snail mail birthday cards and notes. Drop something in the mail to Anne at 1080 State Road, Aquinnah, MA 02535. She will be thrilled to hear from you — and what a fun way to spend the moments of grey and cold later winter often offers.

I was sad to hear Anna and Sean McCaffrey unexpectedly lost their four-year-old, beloved green cheek conure, Mango because of an accidental brief exposure to the fumes produced by a heated pan with Teflon coating. Mango loved to have apples, rolled oats and yogurt for her treats. She hatched six eggs over the years with her mate Tango and each went to a loving forever home.

Anna shares this heartfelt warning, “To all the bird owners out there and just anyone using Teflon-coated kitchenware, please get rid of it as soon as possible.”

West Tisbury has some news: Flat Point Farm’s lambing season has begun. Welcome, little ones.
