The installation of the new ferry ramp on the Chappy side is completed. A few adjustments remain. As the 3 p.m. deadline on Sunday approached we realized that we didn’t have enough time to bolt down every one of the wooden planks that make up the deck of the ramp. They are quite heavy and immovable. We’ll finish that part of the project soon. In the meantime, driving over them makes a pleasant wooden rumbling sound which reminds me of passing through an old covered bridge.

The Chappy ferry will begin operating on the summer schedule as of Thursday, May 23. Weather permitting, the ferry will run continuously from 6:30 a.m. through midnight.

As usual, to arrange for an early trip, speak to the ferry captain in person before 5 p.m. on the day before your early trip. Also, as usual, emergencies requiring the police, the fire department, the ambulance or the hospital emergency room, dial 911. The wonderful folks at the communications center will notify everyone necessary including the ferry captain.

The next meeting of the Chappy Ferry Steering Committee will be on Thursday May 23 at 5 p.m. The agenda includes an update on the sea level rise adaptation study and a look into the possibility of applying for a grant to obtain a new ferryboat. See the town website for the zoom link.

The sixth annual Chappy Point to Point foot race is on Sunday, June 30. Volunteers can contact Lynn at lmartinka@hotmail.com to sign up to help out.

Check the Chappy Community Center website for details and updates about upcoming activities and events. The big events are a golf tournament fundraiser on Saturday, June 22 and the start of the concert series on Saturday, July 20.
