The Edgartown Village Market opened for the season today, bringing a combination of local culinary, agricultural and artistic talent to the town for a second summer.

Grace Romanowsky, one of the creators and organizers of the market, said she wanted Edgartown to have a recurring event similar to markets hosted in other towns.

“We’re a mix of the artisans and the farmers market,” Ms. Romanowsky said, referencing two markets held in West Tisbury. “We’re not just purely art or food, we’re a melding of them.”

There was both prepared food and fresh ingredients on offer Tuesday. Fire Cat Farm sold strawberries alongside bouquets bursting with white feverfew flowers.

“We love the opportunity to see our customers and to have a retail opportunity in Edgartown,” said Casey Mazar-Kelly, one of the farm’s co-owners. “It’s a nice vendor crowd we don’t always get to work with.”

At a neighboring tent, Tara Reynolds displayed colorful prints and stickers of her work. Ms. Reynolds paints pieces of paper before cutting them out and applying them to a canvas to create an image, a process which she calls “collage painting.” She was excited to showcase her work in her hometown.

“It’s nice to come back to where I’m from and see art and farmers,” Ms. Reynolds said. “We don’t really have anything like this in Edgartown, so it is nice to bring a market down-Island.”

Barb Weizenbaum, who vacations on the Island with her family every summer, attended the market to support local artists, which is a passion of hers. It was her first time at Edgartown Village Market.

“The potters, the artists, it’s a great vibe. Definitely a Martha’s Vineyard vibe,” she said.

The Edgartown Village Market market will be held every Tuesday through August, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is located behind the Dr. Daniel Fisher House, 99 Main street, Edgartown.
