Chappy Ferry service will be interrupted by Fourth of July festivities.

Between 4:15 p.m. and approximately 6:30 p.m., no vehicles will be carried on the ferry. That’s because the parade route blocks vehicle access to and from the ferry. After the parade passes, Daggett street will be filled with folks going back to Chappy. Usually there are 10 ferryboat loads cued up. They have to all be gone before vehicles can get through.

Between 8:45 p.m. and approximately 10:15 p.m. no vehicles will be carried on the ferry. That’s because Dock street is so packed with pedestrians assembling to watch the fireworks that motor vehicles can’t get through safely. After the fireworks end, the ferry point will be packed with folks going back to town. Usually there are half a dozen ferryboat loads cued up. They have to all be gone before vehicles can get through.

Foot passengers and bikes will still be carried during the times that vehicles aren’t, except that the ferry stops running altogether during the fireworks.
