A New York man was brought to the hospital after a motorcycle crash in Edgartown Tuesday night.
Fabiano Oliveira, 46, of Brooklyn, was riding with eight other motorcyclists on Herring Creek Road at about 6:45 p.m. He sustained a broken neck after losing control of the motorcycle, police wrote in a report.
Officers reported seeing a black motorcycle resting in thick vegetation next to the bike path where Mr. Oliveria was lying on his back. The motorcycle had damage to its rear end and handlebar.
Mr. Oliveira was riding another man’s motorcycle, the motorocycle owner told police. The owner said he saw Mr. Oliveira lose control and crash.
Mr. Oliveira was taken to Martha’s Vineyard Hospital by paramedics and was transported off-Island by a medical helicopter.
Edgartown Police Chief Bruce McNamee said there were significant skidmarks on the road which indicated Mr. Oliveira and the other riders were driving at a high rate of speed.
Mr. Oliveira will be charged with negligent operation and speeding.
