The Ceremony of Remembrance service takes place Saturday, Sept. 14 at 1 p.m. at the Edgartown Lighthouse.

The event is a time for families and friends to honor and remember children who have died by gathering at the lighthouse. The annual memorial service began in 2001, started by Rick Harrington, who had lost a child and wanted to do something to help families with their grief. It is hosted by the Martha’s Vineyard Museum, which also maintains the bricks that ring the lighthouse, memorializing the names and lives of children.

To add a name to the memorial, reach out to the museum staff, who can help guide them through the process.

A raindate is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 28 at 1 p.m.
