The Fishing Derby started off with a lot of energy when the great fisher Janet Messineo rang the opening bell. This annual monthly contest has a lot of eager participants. A new sign up this year is famous photographer Michael Blanchard.

I have been enjoying a wonderful visit from Linda Tydings Massaro now of Florida. Linda grew up on the Island. Her Dad, Mr. Scott, was principal of the Edgartown School for many years. I shall miss Linda when she leaves today. Same time next year.

Jessica A. Oliver, a woman of many talents, has had a poem published. I am trying to find out where it is but I am trying to pin down this peripatetic person. Stay tuned.

Our annual walk to spotlight suicide prevention, Darkness into Light, takes place Saturday, Sept. 21. The rain date is Sunday, Sept. 22. The walk begins by parking at the Edgartown park and ride. Shuttle buses will take you to the beach where the walk begins before sunrise. I am sure we all have someone to remember.

Linda Cook is finally home from the hospital! I am sure she would appreciate calls, cards, and perhaps some visits.

Happy Anniversary to my delightful former student and his wife. That is Jesse Wiener and Maggie Joy Anderson. Fifteen years!

The birthday bandwagon pulled along Connie Berry on Sept. 12. Aree Walker and Jim Powell celebrated on Sept. 13. Sept. 14 was claimed by Geraldine Brooks. Sept. 15 was a party for Nancy Nevin. And on Sept. 27 Linda Tydings Massaro takes the cake. Many happy returns.
