The Edgartown select board Monday appointed Lieut. Chris Dolby to be the acting police chief as the town searches for a replacement for Chief Bruce McNamee.

Eleven people have applied for the position, including Mr. Dolby. The town began reviewing resumes on Monday.

The town has hired a consultant to lead the search. Candidates will be emailed writing prompts next week and interviews are scheduled for November.

The select board is expected to conduct another round of interviews with final candidates during the first week of December.
