Members of the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah) elected four council members for three-year terms in the tribal election earlier this week.

Jannette Vanderhoop, who was recently elected to the Martha’s Vineyard Commission after running a write-in campaign, will serve her first term as councilwoman after she is sworn in on Jan. 4. She received 144 votes out of 245 total ballots cast at the Nov. 17 election.

Ms. Vanderhoop runs a home gardening business and served as the program director for the Aquinnah Cultural Center from 2006 to 2009. Ms. Vanderhoop also ran for the Aquinnah select board this year, narrowly losing to incumbent Thomas Murphy

Kevin Devine, Amira Madison and Camille Madison were all reelected to the tribal council.

Jonathan Perry, who served on the tribal council for the past term, was not re-elected and will be leaving office on Jan. 4. He received 106 votes, falling 31 votes behind.
